Scoring rules

How sellers are scored

Written as rules before any seller is scored. Status: the framework is published and the first seller records are live in the directory; further domains are added as their material is checked.

A score is only worth reading if a stranger can re-run it. So this site scores sellers on seven things that can be checked from outside: who is behind the domain, whether its catalogue is a copy of another one, whether its delivery wording contradicts itself, whether it publishes readable terms, whether it answers a dispute, and how many disputes are recorded against it. Each dimension shows one of four states with the evidence and its date. There is no total score, because a total hides which of the seven is the problem, and no arrangement, paid or otherwise, changes any of them.

What are the seven dimensions, and how is each checked?

DimensionWhat is looked atWhat it is checked against
Who is behind the domainDomain age, registrar privacy, whether an entity and address are published, and whether the domain shares a stack with other look-alike domains (same theme, same payment plugin, near-identical catalogue)A registrar record and a catalogue comparison — both readable without an account
Catalogue integrityHow much of the catalogue is word-for-word identical to another domain's, whether placeholder prices appear ($0, or an implausible ceiling), whether review widgets carry text left over from another product categoryName and price comparison across catalogues, and the page's own markup
Delivery wordingWhether the site contradicts itself about where goods ship from, and whether it promises arrival windows or customs outcomes it cannot controlThe site's own pages, quoted verbatim
Policy completenessWhether returns, warranty and a dispute route are published in readable terms, and whether the stated contact channel actually resolvesThe site's own pages, plus a delivery test if the channel is a mailbox
ResponsivenessWhether the domain has claimed its listing, and whether it answers a recorded dispute inside the stated windowThe claim record and the dispute log on this site
Dispute recordHow many unresolved disputes are recorded against the domain, each with the complainant's words and the seller's reply on the same pageSubmissions through this site's complaints channel
Payment termsWhether the payment terms appear in writing before payment — the total, who receives the money, and the rail — and whether any of it changes after it was agreedThe seller's own pages, quoted verbatim, plus what is recorded in its dispute log

What are the four states?

StateMeansTypical evidence
ClearThe check was run and found nothing notableA registrar record, a page quoted verbatim
MixedThe check found something a buyer should know before payingA self-contradiction on the seller's own pages; a partly duplicated catalogue
AdverseThe check found something that would normally stop a careful buyerA catalogue that is word-for-word another domain's; unresolved disputes left unanswered
UnverifiedNot checked, or not checkable from outside. Stated, not filled inNothing — an empty slot is left empty

What is not scored?

How is a score kept from becoming a ranking?

Two structural rules rather than promises. Sellers are never ordered by the quality of their profile: the default order is alphabetical by domain, so a good profile cannot float to the top and a bad one cannot be buried. And no aggregate is published, so there is nothing to sort by even if someone wanted to. The only numbers shown next to a seller are counts of checkable things: how many dimensions were checked, and how many disputes are recorded and unresolved.

What can buyers add, and what does it not do?

A buyer can submit a transaction fact (date, amount, what was ordered, what happened) with whatever supports it. It is published as submitted by a buyer and marked as not verified by this site, in the seller's dispute record. It does not move any of the seven dimensions, because this site holds no funds and cannot confirm a payment happened. Sellers get the same space to answer, in the same block and the same length. Three or more unresolved disputes of the same kind put a disputed marker at the top of that seller's profile — a record, not a verdict, and never the word "scam".
